How to Design Email Templates in Mailchimp

Create reusable email templates in Mailchimp. Brand consistency, drag-and-drop design, and responsive layouts for all devices.

How to Design Email Templates in Mailchimp

1

Set up your brand kit

Go to Content → My Brand Kit. Upload your logo, set brand colors, and choose fonts. Mailchimp uses these defaults in every new email and landing page you create.

2

Create a new template

Go to Campaigns → Email Templates → Create Template. Choose a layout: 1-column (newsletters), 2-column (product features), or start with a themed template you can customize.

3

Design your template

Use the drag-and-drop editor to build your template structure. Add header, content sections, CTA buttons, social links, and footer. Style each block with your brand colors and fonts.

4

Save as reusable template

Click 'Save as Template' and name it descriptively (e.g., 'Monthly Newsletter', 'Product Announcement'). Your team can now create campaigns from this template without redesigning each time.

Pro tips

  • *

Design mobile-first — over 60% of emails are opened on mobile devices. Keep single-column layouts and large tap targets

  • *

Use Mailchimp's 'Saved Content Blocks' feature to reuse common sections (headers, footers, CTAs) across templates

  • *

Test your template across email clients using Mailchimp's Inbox Preview (or Litmus integration) before saving
