Step-by-step
How to Import VS Code Settings into Cursor
Install Cursor
Download and install Cursor from cursor.com. You don't need to uninstall VS Code — both can coexist on the same machine.
Use the import wizard
On first launch, Cursor detects your VS Code installation and offers to import settings. Click 'Import from VS Code' to bring over extensions, themes, keybindings, and user settings.
Verify extensions installed
Open the Extensions panel (Cmd+Shift+X) and verify your extensions transferred. Most VS Code extensions work in Cursor without modification since they share the same extension API.
Adjust AI-specific settings
Go to Cursor Settings to configure AI features that VS Code doesn't have: model selection, privacy mode, completion behavior, and rules for AI.
