How-To Guide

How to Set Up Slack Huddles

Start instant audio and video calls in Slack with huddles. No calendar invite needed — just click and talk.

How to Set Up Slack Huddles

1

Start a huddle in any channel or DM

Click the headphones icon in the bottom-left of any channel or direct message. This instantly starts an audio call that others in the channel can join. No calendar invite or meeting link needed.

2

Turn on video and screen sharing

Once in a huddle, click the camera icon to turn on video, or click the screen icon to share your screen. Huddles support up to 50 participants with video and screen sharing on paid plans.

3

Use the huddle thread

Every huddle has a text thread running alongside it. Share links, paste code snippets, or take notes in the thread. The thread persists after the huddle ends, so decisions are documented.

4

Draw and annotate on shared screens

When someone shares their screen, other participants can draw on it using the annotation tools. This is useful for design reviews, bug demonstrations, and collaborative brainstorming.

Pro tips

  • *

Huddles are designed to be lightweight — use them for quick 5-minute syncs instead of scheduling a meeting

  • *

Free plan users can only do 1:1 huddles; group huddles require a paid plan

  • *

Leave a huddle running in a channel as a virtual coworking room — teammates can drop in and out

  • *

Huddle threads are great for sharing context that would be lost in a regular voice call
