How-To Guide

How to Use Notion AI

Get started with Notion AI. Write drafts, summarize pages, extract action items, and answer questions about your workspace.

How to Use Notion AI

1

Enable Notion AI

Notion AI is an add-on at $10/member/month. Go to Settings & Members > Plans to add it. Once enabled, AI features appear throughout the workspace — in the editor, databases, and search.

2

Use AI in the editor

Press Space on an empty line or select text and click 'Ask AI'. Options include: write a draft, summarize, translate, fix grammar, make longer/shorter, change tone, and explain. AI generates content inline that you can edit or discard.

3

Summarize and extract from pages

On any page, use AI to summarize long documents, extract action items from meeting notes, create a table of key points, or generate a TLDR. This is especially powerful for long wiki pages and meeting transcripts.

4

Use AI in databases

Add an AI-powered property to databases. AI can auto-fill summaries, extract keywords, categorize entries, or generate custom fields based on page content. Configure the AI prompt per property.

5

Ask questions about your workspace

Use Notion AI search (Cmd+J) to ask natural language questions about your workspace content: 'What was decided in last week's product meeting?' or 'What's the status of the Q2 roadmap?' AI searches across all accessible pages.

Pro tips

  • *

Notion AI works best on pages with structured content — headings, lists, and clear sections produce better summaries

  • *

Use AI to draft first versions of repetitive documents (project briefs, status updates) then edit for accuracy

  • *

AI database properties are great for auto-generating summaries of long entries — saves time when scanning databases

  • *

Notion AI's Q&A feature searches your entire workspace — it's like having a team member who has read every page
