How to Find Content Gaps with Ahrefs

Use Ahrefs Content Gap to discover keywords competitors rank for that you don't. Step-by-step content opportunity analysis.

How to Find Content Gaps with Ahrefs

1

Open Content Gap

In Site Explorer, navigate to 'Content Gap' under the 'Organic search' section. This tool compares your keyword profile against competitors to find opportunities.

2

Add your domain and competitors

Enter your domain in the bottom 'But the following target doesn't rank for' field. Add 2-5 competitor domains in the top fields. Click 'Show keywords'.

3

Filter the results

You'll see potentially thousands of keywords. Filter by: Volume (100+), KD (under 40 for winnable opportunities), and 'Intersection' (keywords where 2+ competitors rank — these are proven opportunities).

4

Prioritize and plan content

Sort by traffic potential. For each keyword, check the SERP to understand what content type ranks. Add the best opportunities to a keyword list and plan content around them.
